China’s National Administration of Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation has announced a 2020 deadline to integrate its systems for modelling the nation’s behaviours across land, underground, sea, air and outer space.

The Administration’s Deputy Director, Li Pengde, has told the Xinhua News Agency that the future national system will include surveying vehicles and vessels, medium and low-altitude remote sensing mapping platforms, aerospace mapping satellites and underground measuring robots.

Mr Li said the system would facilitate China’s economic development, defence, emergency management and other government decision-making. China has made substantial progress in developing the relevant technologies, he said.
